Social Care or a Care Home?

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Social care typically involves helping clients remain in their homes and avoid going to a care home by having a care worker or a social worker visit clients. This type of working is interesting and varied, but some people prefer care worker jobs at residential care homes that offer full time positions.

Both options provide a rewarding career. For those who are taking their first care worker position, the security of having other workers nearby is great. There are numerous jobs available in care homes where new care workers can draw upon the experiences of their co-workers when they are dealing with unfamiliar situations. Care homes can be good places to work. There are many more good care homes than bad, run by people who really care about the residents.

Social care home visits can be rewarding, knowing that you are helping a person remain in their home in safety. You are also giving that persons family a break, letting them relax, knowing their loved one is in your care. Sometimes you will meet family members wracked by guilt, just because they want to get away for a few hours. Experienced care workers can often deal with whatever arises on a home visit as well.

Whichever type of care work a person prefers, there are always jobs waiting to be filled. In the UK, the shortage of workers has created numerous job openings. A care worker can easily find the type of work he or she prefers, often in their own neighborhood.

Care Worker Interviews

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

For those working in social care, especially those working as a care worker, jobs are fairly easy to obtain. This does not mean the job interview is any less stressful however. Places that have a reputation as good employers know they can pick and chose their employees, so you want to make a good impression during the interview.

Most employers or recruiters will ask you why you want to work for their company. Even if your reason is salary, don’t say this. Mention something about the company that interests you. Online research can produce at least one point that will answer this question adequately.

Job interviews in the social care are used to determine candidates strengths and weaknesses. You will likely be asked about your greatest strength. Compassion and empathy are common answers, especially for those applying to be a care worker. Back up your strength with an example that applies to a previous position.

As for a weakness, state a weakness that could also be considered a strength, such as perfectionism, or an obsession with punctuality. If the interview is for an entry level position and you have no job experience to draw on, mention relevant life experience. Find out all here is about what a care worker does, and there should be something in your life experiences that will be relevant.

Job interviews are universally dreaded, but people survive. If you are qualified, you will likely get the job. Most interviewers cannot afford to waste their time meeting unqualified applicants.

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

high fat dietSeveral authors claim that it is possible to lose weight and build muscle with a high fat diet, the Anabolic and Metabolic Diet by Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale and diet Body Opus by Dan Duchaine, are two examples.

According to these diets can lose fat without losing muscle mass. It consists of a very low carbohydrate intake for 5 days with two days with high intake of carbohydrates to achieve the super-compensation. Our body provides fat diet very differently to carbohydrates or protein. While our intake of carbohydrates or protein is balanced body use as fuel, fat intake is balanced by changes in body fat deposits.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported two separate studies on how diets affect the use of fats and carbohydrates and fat deposits. One diet was high in carbohydrates and high in fat, while the other contained very little carbohydrate and fat.

Both studies concluded by stating that as carbohydrate intake rose or fell, was the same with its use as fuel. Moreover, the amount of fat eaten, corresponded to the individual body fat percentage, the more consumed, the more retained.

Note also that in one study the carbohydrate-rich diet contained 20% more calories than fat-rich diet, and yet the subject of high-carbohydrate group reduced their body weight in larger quantities.
